Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 November 2026
This policy covers the Android app AuronScanner: Document Scanner ("AuronScanner", "the app"), a document scanner that works offline.
Data we collect
We (the developer) receive none of your data. The app has no internet access: Android's internet permission is removed from it, so it cannot send anything to us or anyone else. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting, and we run no servers that receive your data.
Pro purchases go through Google Play. When the app starts or comes back to the screen, it asks Google Play, through the Play Store app on your phone, whether you have Pro, and the Pro screen asks for its price in your currency. After you buy, the app confirms the purchase with Google Play. Our Google Play Data safety section lists this as purchase history. Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy, and we never see your payment details.
Data stored on your device
- Your documents: the photos you take or import, the processed pages, thumbnails, page settings (corners, filter, rotation, brightness and contrast) and document names.
- Your settings, such as the PDF page size and the last filter used, and whether you have Pro.
- If you use the Private folder (Pro): an encrypted copy of the private folder's key, protected by your passcode. Your passcode itself is never stored.
Photos are re-encoded when you scan or import them, which removes their metadata (EXIF), including GPS location and camera details. Exported PDFs contain no author, app, device or date information.
All of this is kept in the app's private storage on your phone, which other apps can't read. Android backup is turned off for AuronScanner, and its data is excluded from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so none of it is copied to your Google account or moved to a new phone. Uninstalling the app deletes it, except copies you saved yourself (see below).
Private folder (Pro)
Documents in the Private folder are encrypted on your phone with AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is itself encrypted with a key derived from your passcode (PBKDF2-SHA256, 600,000 iterations). Without your passcode, the documents can't be read, by us or anyone else, and they can't be recovered if you forget it.
The Private folder locks after 2 minutes in the background or 5 minutes without a touch. While private documents are on screen, screenshots, screen recording and the preview in recent apps are blocked. Private documents are never written to your chosen folder or to normal backups. A private backup is a file that stays encrypted and opens only with the passcode the folder had when the backup was made.
Files you choose to save or share
A file only leaves the app when you ask for it:
- Save to device / Share: the PDF, images or backup go to the place or app you pick in Android's Save or share screens.
- Save to a folder: if you turn it on, every document (except private ones) is saved as a PDF, plus a restore copy, in a folder you pick with Android's folder picker. The app can access only that folder. These files are normal, unencrypted files that stay after you uninstall the app; other apps that can open that folder can read them.
- Backups: "Back up all documents" creates one unencrypted .zip file where you choose. Private backups are encrypted.
What happens to a file after you save or share it is up to you and the app you send it to.
Permissions
- Camera: to scan pages with the live camera. Photos are processed and stored on your phone only. You can decline and use the phone's camera app or import photos instead.
- Google Play billing: to check whether you have Pro and to buy it through Google Play.
The app does not request internet, location, contacts, microphone, storage or photo-library permissions. Photos are imported with Android's file picker and folders are chosen with Android's folder picker, which give the app access to only what you pick.
Security and retention
Your documents stay in the app's private storage until you delete them in the app, clear AuronScanner's storage in Android's settings, or uninstall the app. We keep no copy anywhere. Private documents are encrypted at rest as described above.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
